Every so often The Kansas City Star reports on health code violations
that are found in restaurants in the metropolitan area. Sometimes they
quote a manager's or owner's response to the report. This article is from
August 20, 2010.

This is a normal story till we get to the quote. Now, normally these
quotes say something like, "We scheduled a new training session to make sure
this doesn't happen again," or "All employees are expected to follow the rules,
and we will be enforcing them even more strictly in the future."
But the quoted response in this report is, "Our cooler broke the night before.
It was an unfortunate incident in timing." Manager Senecal is not taking
reponsibility for the problems that could have made his paying patrons sick.
He's not unhappy that his restaurant might have sent people to their toilets to
pump out vomit or diarrhea, or to the hospital to get their stomachs pumped out.
No, he regards it as unfortunate that the health inspectors showed up just after
the cooler broke.
I guess this isn't such a fun pic after all.
