Location
"The Nature of Art" art show will take place all along the
1.2-mile stretch of the Turkey Creek Streamway Park path between 67th Street on the north
and 75th Street on the south, in Merriam, Kansas. Merriam is in Johnson County,
which is located in northeast Kansas. The Turkey Creek Streamway Park path is just
west of I-35.
There are two access points to the path with parking. The
bigger, better one is at the 67th Street entrance, and the rear entrance
is at 75th Street.
- From I-35 South, exit at 67th Street. Turn right (west) on 67th
and cross the railroad tracks. A short distance farther is Knox Avenue, where you
turn left (south) for free parking.
- From I-35 North, exit at 75th Street. Turn left (west) on 75th
and proceed across the bridge over I-35. Turn right (north) immediately past the
bridge, then take the next right turn and then the next right turn for free parking.

Dates and Times
Saturday and Sunday,
September 28 and 29, 2002,
from noon till 5.
Because the show will take place in early Fall, hot weather is still a possibility, but
do remember that the path is a wonderful place to be on a hot afternoon, as a good portion
is shaded and about ten degrees cooler than just about anywhere else outdoors.
Three golf carts and drivers will be available, and we will do our best to accommodate any
elderly or disabled person who has difficulty walking. |

Accessible Arts |
Saturday and Sunday |
The mission of Accessible Arts, Inc. is to champion the arts for children with disabilities and advocate access to the arts.
"We believe that through the arts, children develop critical thinking skills, take risks in a safe environment and experience successes. The challenge of creating something of value instills hope and self-confidence in children."
In addition to the info on the Home page, Accessible Arts will oversee the construction of a nature weaving. Children and adults may participate during the weekend in creating a freestanding weaving made of found objects.
The piece will evolve over the two days as everyone adds their collections, and then remain in the park through the fall and winter as food and nesting material for the birds and other wildlife.

Singer/songwriter |
Sunday, September 29, 2002 |
Kelly Werts, twice a third-place finisher in the National Fingerpick Guitar contest at the Walnut Valley Festival (1990 and 1992), plays guitar, fiddle, penny whistle, spoons, jaw bone and cigar box fiddle.
His finger style guitar work, in contrast to so many fine solo players, emphasizes ensemble playing, borrowing most heavily from fiddle and banjo influences.
He plays fiddle tunes on the guitar to gain relief -- from playing fiddle tunes on his fiddle.
Be sure to plan some time to stop by the giant burr oak tree toward the south end of the path to hear Kelly on Sunday afternoon.
